Abstract: This essay reexamines research on the origins of the Lin Shuangwen Uprising, much of which was based on the theory of class-conflict determinism, from the perspective of the special environmental conditions of Taiwan’s immigrant society at the time. The author believes that brotherhoods and secret societies, and ethnic feuds were two important factors facilitating the uprismg.
