Abstract: The life stories of many eunuchs in the early Qing have remained unknown due to the lack of historical records. This article investigates and analyzes the lives and experiences of several eunuchs in the Qing Dynasty such as the first Supervisor-in-chief of the Eunuch Office, Gu Wenxing, Haha Juse Liang Jiugong, and Haha Juse Wei Zhu based on the newly-found historical records and the archives in Manchu and Chinese. This article explores how eunuchs, who were oppressed and enslaved, at the same time played their roles in the politics of the Qing court by delivering and executing the Qing emperors’ instructions.
